In countries where Hindi is the main language, it has been used for at least a millennium by its speakers. The first known document in which the knowledge of Sanskrit was passed on through writing is called Chandidas Baraha Sandoha, written in Sanskrit around 1150 AD. This text lays down rules for constructing characters with vowels and consonants using nine basic alphabets. The "sandoha" or the art of composing the words seems to have been lost over time, but this book gives us insights into how text may have looked like when composed at that point in history. It also tells us about major changes that took place over time until it reached its present form. The usage of Hindi is in direct correlation with its acceptance in Indian states. Dialects of Hindi are the most widely used languages in the world. Hindi is made up of an extensive body of Indian literature, which began to develop from 1000 BC onwards. However, the development of original literature accelerated after the 14th century AD with works such as Meghaduta by Kalidasa. By 1700 AD, when India was under foreign colonial rule during British rule, there were over 500,000 distinct words in Sanskrit being used in India’s various dialects. As early as the 12th century under the rule of King Anant Singh of Delhi, there was an official department dealing with the translation of Sanskrit literature into Hindi. The government of India has officially advised the people to speak in Hindi. The Constitution of India states that English is to be progressively eliminated from official use since 1965 (i.e. 25 years after independence, which occurred in 1947). By 1965, for various political reasons, much progress had not been made towards replacing English with Hindi in government functions; however, by 1985 all government business was conducted in Hindi. It is widely expected that "English will soon cease to be an associate language". The Government of India has set up a Hindi Language Board to promote the language in India with the aim of eliminating regional differences. To enable the monitoring process of the language in India, the Union Council of Ministers in 2006 suggested that "the Ministry of Human Resource Development should encourage development/usage of Hindi in private bodies, educational institutions and voluntary organisations". Over 80 million Indians speak Hindi in various parts of India. The ISO standard in North America is ISO 639-2 which covers Indian languages. The standard was drafted by the Linguistic Committee for Applications responsible for applications languages used by national or international organisations. This committee's work is coordinated by ISO 639 BCD . The ISO standard in Europe is ISO 639-3 which covers Indian languages. The standard was drafted by the Chartered Institute for Linguists and it is coordinated by ISO 639-3:1998 and ISO/IEC JTC 1. In Bangladesh , Hindi has been used since the mid-19th century as a medium of instruction in Muslim madrasahs . In Bengal , it was used as a medium of instruction from about 1850 AD, more frequently after the partition of India, and became the language usually taught in government schools from 1960 AD onwards. It had been introduced as a subject to study by Europeans before it became a medium of instruction at school level. cfa1e77820
